TTK: What a Weekend

TTKs are Sky Blue Window's 'Things to Know,' events, ideas and cultural creations that we think are worthy of your time and attention.

No less than a decade ago, cool kids and art enthusiasts would spend lazy Friday nights and Saturday afternoons complaining about a lack of interesting activities. No more! All excuses for complaints and staying home have been erased. And this weekend is a prime example.

Here are just a handful of highlights - the things to know - of the big and small, general-audience and niche events happening this weekend.

·First Friday: With an art opening and the final 5x5 event, Harrison Center for the Arts has big plans tonight. In Fountain Square, Joyful Noise is hosting Freddie T & The People and the Pork 'n' Beans Brass Band.

·Saturday: Penrod will meet the needs of people who enjoy art festivals on the beautiful Indianapolis Museum of Art grounds. Art vs. Art kicks off with artist paint day at Garfield Park.

·All weekend: HorrorHound Weekend visits Indianapolis. With horror screenings, a Mask Fest and celebrities including Arlington High School grad Vivica A Fox and Robert Englund of Nightmare on Elm Street fame, this touring convention for gore and ghoul geeks runs Friday through Sunday.

What are your plans for the weekend?
