Mourning Glories

Art galleries unto themselves, cemeteries house exquisite examples of design and architecture. Chiseled by the elements, their sculptures of stone and marble represent passages of time and lives. A dance of light and darkness falls upon the sacred grounds while pillars, pedestals and headstones throw abstract shadows throughout each day. And the symphony of nature and wildlife share the stage with mournful and reverent silence.

On this holiday weekend with Halloween, All Saints Day and All Souls Day/Dia de Los Muertos, we see humorous and eerie depictions of graveyards, their spiritual connotations often parodied. But Sky Blue Window’s frequent contributing photographer Jenn Kriscunas offers us lovely views of Crown Hill Cemetery and some of its most artistic and glorious funerary works. We hope you enjoy the exhibit.
