Lusty wenches and strapping lads, stretch on thy tights and cinch thy waist. It’s time to crack open that Elizabethan as a Second Language guide and make thee way to the 10th annual Fishers Renaissance Faire.

Whether ye be of middle class or nobility, lady or lord, thee can get thine Elizabethan freak on this weekend (Oct. 4th and 5th, rain or shine) from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the grounds of Saxony, a community just off exit 201 from I-69.

  • Late Mountenback and Elixir of Life Company are one of many costumed performers adding a bit of old-timey color to the 2014 Renaissance Faire.

More than 250 costumed characters will parade about in their fancy pants and damsel dresses, conversing as if they just stepped out of the pages of The Merry Adventures of Robin Hood. There will be parades, period music and dance, swashbuckling sword fights, knighting ceremonies, roving comedy troupes and jousting competitions on steeds. And, of course, no Renaissance Faire would be complete without the requisite Shakespeare vignettes. Musical acts will include traditional folk songs, Celtic instrumentals, sea shanties, ballads and the Queen’s madrigal choir.

And for fair-goers who desire Renaissance services and souvenirs, more than 70 “Rennie” vendors will be on site. Not-to-miss booths (for their names alone) include: Got Kilt, Wicked Wench Productions, Bjorn the Viking, Crimson Chain Leather Works, Siege the Day, Wolf Man Apothecary and Wizard’s Bart. Just sayin’…

Tickets are $12 for adults and children 13 and older; $5 for kids aged 5 to 12; free for little ones 4 and younger. For information on specific performances and times, check out the Fishers Renaissance Faire website. Anon!
