Hall Party

If you get enough innovative artists under one roof, something special is bound to happen. And that's just what Jo Uni witnessed firsthand when he attended last year’s UPRSNG festival.

“The energy in the place was so vibrant and diverse,” remembers Uni, who also makes experimental R&B music under the name Jo Universal. “I saw people from all walks of life coming together to enjoy what the city had to offer. It was overwhelming -- in a good way.”

Started by local artist Danicia Monét, UPRSNG brings a vast array of local creators together for a night of imaginative exchange that features budding musicians, visual artists and vendors, all in an effort to shed light on some of the city’s lesser-known gems. UPRSNG III will be staged this Saturday (May 9th) from 7 to 10 p.m. at The Hall (202 N. Alabama St.).

After attending last year’s event, Uni made it his mission to perform at UPRSNG III. He says, “Seeing all of those new artists have their ‘moment’ just made me want mine. I thought to myself, ‘I’m performing here next year. Just watch.’” Consequently, his dream will become a reality, when he performs as part of the unique lineup of 2015 musical acts. They will include everything from folk to rock to hip-hop sounds.

“Personally, I can’t wait for people to hear what I have to offer,” Uni says. “It’s a new wave R&B feel that Indianapolis needs …”
