Justin Chase Lane creates photographs from miniature dioramas and life-sized tableaus, which he fabricates from the detritus of everyday life. He often creates miniatures that seem life sized, while making the life-sized seem diminutive. His constructed photographs start out as conceptual drawings; two are on view in the exhibit. His scenes evoke subjective feelings through their uncanny settings, placing the viewer in the role of protagonist as the only person present in a given tableau. Feelings of absence and anticipation are prevalent in Lane’s work, subverted by the viewer’s participation in the artist’s unique worlds.
