Photographer Sophie Gamand specializes in a very particular kind of photography. The French expat who now resides in New York City focuses her attention on man's best friend. She's interested in the "contemporary dynamics in the relationship between dogs and humans," a pretty lofty examination of an everyday connection for canine companions.
While it might be easy to guffaw or just "aw" at her images, they do accomplish her mission. By capturing dogs covered in sudsy water, outfitted in top hats or neglected as strays, Gamand explores the way that humans blur the lines between animal and furry child when it comes to pets. Though most of her images are of dogs, in many ways her work reflects people and their lifestyles much more.
