A Written Groundhog Day

The plot and premise of the 1993 movie “Groundhog Day”, starring Bill Murray, revolves around an arrogant East Coast TV weatherman who’s forced to live the same day over and over until he gets his priorities straight – according to everyone else around him. But the storytelling conceit of living a life many times over, with all the good and bad that goes along with it is hardly new. And in Life After Life, British author Kate Atkinson ups the ante by taking all kinds of liberties with the concept, and turns in a novel featuring multiple plots and possibilities, a sort of sci-fi dramedy with a touch of sadness thrown in for good measure. And for those who haven’t seen Groundhog Day (really?) here’s a taste.
